He teaches in The Management Development Center of the University of New Mexico and holds a Ph.D. from Boston College and a BA from Dickinson College.

Dr. Shenkman also leads The New Directions Institute and its Entrepreneurial Leadership Excelerator (ELE) Program. This is a community-based mentoring program offering unique leadership development for aspiring leaders.  Along with the enriching program content, and several group learning experience the program features an individual and dedicated mentoring relationship. Each participant is paired and meets with an individual mentor eight times, privately, one on one for highly personal and directed conversations.  Over the course of eight months of private, individual sessions and four group learning experiences, participants gain a unique opportunity for profound personal growth.  Most relationships with the mentors persist well beyond the boundaries of the program.
